Commercial photography in Dallas

Vantas shoots commercial photography for brands that need a library of images they can use on a website, booking engine, menu, catalog and social feed. We are a Dallas photography and video production company, so the same shoot can deliver stills and footage. Our photography clients include Hotel Herringbone, InterContinental Hotels Group, Choctaw Casinos & Resort, Noble Vines, Deep Ellum Brewing and D Magazine, where we shot editorial photography.

What we photograph

  • Hotel rooms, suites, lobbies, pools and amenities
  • Food, drinks and menus, plated by your kitchen or styled for camera
  • Bottles, cans and packaged products, in studio and on location
  • Lifestyle scenes with hired talent, your team or your customers
  • Team portraits and headshots for recruiting, press and sales
  • Events, from stage moments to sponsor and guest coverage
  • Exteriors and aerial frames, flown under FAA rules

If you also need footage, our Dallas video production runs on the same shoot days with the same plan.

How a photography shoot runs

Every project starts with a discovery call with Woody Lawson, our owner and creative director. He takes the call and he directs the shoot. We ask what the images have to show and where they will be used, because a booking engine, a menu and an ad each need different crops, angles and space for type.

Pre-production is finished before a shoot date is locked:

  • A signed agreement listing deliverables, final image count, formats, the shoot date and the delivery date
  • A creative brief and a ranked shot list you approve, with a mood board when it helps
  • A location walkthrough, in person or by video, with your on-site contact
  • Talent, hair and makeup, and styling booked when the shoot needs them, with releases signed
  • A call sheet sent to the crew 72 hours ahead

On the day, hero shots go first and are confirmed on set before we wrap. Shots are grouped by location, with buffer time between setups. We shoot in studio and on location; studio space is booked to fit the job.

Post-production covers selects and retouching. Revision rounds are written into the scope. Stills are delivered as retouched high-resolution files and web-optimized versions.

Single shoots and retainers

A single shoot fits a defined need: a new menu, a renovation, a product launch, a rebrand. A retainer fits a business that changes through the year. It sets a monthly scope of shoot time and deliverables, includes a planning session each month, and holds the monthly rate fixed for the initial term, so the library stays current and the look stays consistent.

What drives the cost of a photography shoot

  • Crew size and the number of shoot days
  • The number of locations, and travel outside Dallas
  • Talent, hair and makeup, wardrobe, and food or prop styling
  • Studio time, when the job needs it
  • The number of final images and how much retouching each needs
  • How and where the images will be used

Questions marketing teams ask about commercial photography

Who owns the photos?

Our standard agreement gives you a non-exclusive, perpetual license to use the final images for marketing, advertising, web and social media. Vantas keeps the copyright. If a partner, a parent brand or a distributor needs the files, tell us in pre-production and we will write it into the agreement.

How many final images will we get?

The count is set in the agreement before the shoot, based on the shot list. Each hero shot on the list becomes at least one retouched final.

Do you style food and products?

Styling is set on the shot list. Some shoots use plates as your kitchen sends them; others need a stylist.

Do you work outside Dallas?

Yes. We work in more than ten U.S. markets, including Dallas, Denver, Nashville, Atlanta, Charlotte, Indianapolis, Phoenix, San Diego, Miami and Seattle, with local crew directed from Dallas to one standard. Projects outside our markets include travel in the scope.

Do you carry insurance?

We carry general liability coverage for on-location production. If a venue or property needs a certificate or additional insured status, tell us early.
