Restaurant, food and beverage photography and video production

About The Service

Vantas shoots photography and video production for restaurants, bars, breweries, wineries and distilleries that need a menu, a room or a bottle to look the way it does in person. We are a Dallas company that shoots restaurants here at home and takes beverage brand shoots and national assignments in other markets. Our beverage work includes Deep Ellum Brewing in Dallas and Noble Vines.

What we shoot for food and beverage brands

Photography

  • Menu photography: plated dishes, cocktails, pours and ingredients
  • Bottle, can and glass photography for beverage brands
  • Kitchen and bar scenes: the chef plating, the bartender working, prep and process
  • Dining room, bar and patio interiors
  • Guests at the table and the feel of a full service
  • Seasonal menu launches and new releases
  • Private dining and event coverage

Video production

  • Short vertical cuts for social, delivered with a horizontal version when the web needs one
  • Chef, owner and maker features
  • Kitchen, brewhouse, cellar and distillery process pieces
  • Product video for bottles, cans and cocktails
  • Lifestyle scenes with talent for beverage campaigns
  • Event and private dining recaps

How a food and beverage shoot runs

It starts with a discovery call with Woody Lawson, our owner and creative director, who also directs the shoot. We ask what brings people in, what brings them back, and what your current photos and video fail to show. For a beverage brand we ask where the product is sold and where the files will run.

Pre-production is done before the shoot date is locked:

  • A signed agreement listing deliverables, formats, the shoot date and the delivery date
  • A shot list you approve, built dish by dish or product by product, with reference images when they help
  • A walkthrough of the space, in person or by video, to read the light and plan the setups
  • A schedule agreed with your team for kitchen access, load-in and the hours we can use the room
  • Talent and styling booked when the scenes need them, with releases signed
  • A call sheet sent to the crew 72 hours ahead

On the day, shots are ranked. Hero shots, the ones the project fails without, are scheduled first and confirmed on set before we wrap. Shots are grouped by location in the building so the kitchen is not asked to fire the same dish twice, and the schedule carries buffer time between setups. Crew size runs from two people to fifteen depending on scope.

Post-production covers selects and retouching for stills, and editing, color grading and sound design for video. Revision rounds are written into the scope. You receive retouched high-resolution stills, web-optimized versions, and finished video exports in the cuts named in your agreement.

Projects and retainers

A single production fits a defined need: an opening, a new menu, a product release, a website rebuild. You get a fixed list of deliverables, a shoot date and a delivery date.

A retainer fits a kitchen or a brand that keeps changing. Seasonal menus, patio season, new releases, guest chefs and private events all give us something new to shoot. A retainer sets a monthly scope of shoot time and deliverables, includes a planning session each month, and holds the monthly rate fixed for the initial term. Restaurant groups with more than one concept get a separate track for each so the brands are never blended.

What drives cost on either one:

  • Crew size and the number of shoot days
  • The number of dishes, drinks or products on the shot list
  • The number of locations, and travel if the shoot is outside Dallas
  • Talent, styling and props
  • The count of final images and video cuts, and how much retouching they need
  • How and where the work will be licensed for use

Questions restaurant owners and beverage marketers ask

Can you shoot while we are open?

That is decided in pre-production. Menu photography and controlled setups usually go better when the room is closed or in a section set aside for us. Atmosphere and guest scenes need a live service or hired talent. We set the schedule with your team so the kitchen and the floor know what is happening and when.

Who owns the photos and video?

Our standard agreement gives you a non-exclusive, perpetual license to use the final deliverables for marketing, advertising, web and social media. Vantas keeps the copyright. If a distributor, retailer or delivery platform needs files, tell us in pre-production so the agreement covers that use.

Do guests or staff need to sign releases?

Anyone who is identifiable in a frame used for marketing needs a release. For talent we hire, we handle the releases. For your staff or invited guests, your team gathers them, and we can supply the form.

Do you bring talent and styling?

When the shoot needs them, yes. We book talent, hair and makeup, and styling during pre-production and they are listed on the call sheet. Whether a shoot needs a stylist depends on the shot list, so we settle it there, not on the day.
