Product and studio photography and video production

About The Service

Vantas shoots product photography and video production for brands that sell a physical thing and need it shown accurately on a product page, in an ad or in a catalog. We are based in Dallas and shoot in studio and on location, here and on national assignments. Our product work includes bottle and can shoots for Noble Vines and Deep Ellum Brewing, along with tools, equipment and consumer goods.

  • In-use and demonstration pieces
  • Short vertical cuts for social, delivered alongside the horizontal version
  • Process pieces on how the product is made

  • Launch films for a new product or line

How a product shoot runs

It starts with a discovery call with Woody Lawson, our owner and creative director, who also directs the shoot. We ask what the product does, who buys it, where the files will be used and how many items need to be covered.

Product work is usually planned on two tracks. The first is studio volume: every item, shot the same way on a plain backdrop. The second is environmental: the product in a real space, with or without people. Most brands need both, and deciding the split early keeps the shoot days efficient.

Pre-production is finished before a shoot date is locked:

  • A signed agreement listing deliverables, formats, the shoot date and the delivery date
  • A product list, so every item and variant is counted before the day
  • A look and feel agreed through a mood board or reference images
  • A shot list you approve, ranked and grouped by setup
  • Product delivery arranged, from you or straight from your warehouse
  • Location, props and styling confirmed for the environmental scenes
  • Talent booked with releases signed when products are shown in use
  • A call sheet sent to the crew 72 hours ahead

On the day, hero shots are scheduled first and confirmed on set before we wrap. The schedule carries buffer time between setups, with a plan for what is cut first if a setup runs long. Crew size runs from two people to fifteen depending on scope.

Post-production covers selects and retouching for stills, and editing, color grading and sound design for video. Revision rounds are written into the scope. Stills are delivered as retouched high-resolution files and web-optimized versions sized for your store. Video is delivered as finished exports in the cuts named in your agreement.

Projects and retainers

A single production fits a launch, a catalog refresh or a new store build. You get a fixed list of deliverables, a shoot date and a delivery date.

A retainer fits a brand that adds products or runs campaigns through the year. It sets a monthly scope of shoot time and deliverables, includes a planning session each month, and holds the monthly rate fixed for the initial term. New items are shot to the same setup as the existing line, so the store stays consistent as it grows.

What drives cost on either one:

  • The number of products and variants on the list
  • Crew size and the number of shoot days
  • Studio time versus location work, and the number of locations
  • Props, styling and talent
  • The count of final images and video cuts
  • Retouching, which is scoped per image
  • How and where the work will be licensed for use

Questions product marketers ask

Do you shoot in a studio or at our location?

Both. Studio is the right call for catalog and e-commerce work where every item needs the same light. Location is the right call when the product needs context. We settle the split in pre-production based on the shot list.

How do we get products to you?

That is arranged in pre-production. You can deliver them, ship them, or have your warehouse or fulfillment partner release them to us directly. We work from your product list so nothing is missed and everything goes back.

Can retailers and distributors use the images?

Our standard agreement gives you a non-exclusive, perpetual license to use the final deliverables for marketing, advertising, web and social media. Vantas keeps the copyright, and passing files to third parties needs written consent. If retailers, distributors or marketplaces need the files, name them in pre-production and we will write that use into the agreement.

How much retouching is included?

The number of retouched final images is listed in the agreement. Cleanup such as dust, scratches, label alignment and color accuracy is part of that. Composites or heavy alterations are scoped separately, so show us an example of the finish you expect.
